Vacation and Being a Writer

April 22, 2025

My husband and I recently took a glorious three-week vacation—our most generous time away ever and two years in the making. It was wonderful, but throughout the first week, my mind kept ticking away at my plays. Awake, asleep - tick, tick, tick. I tried to create a mental buffer around this constant churning.

Eventually it moved onto marinating on my next play. I was glad it had changed lanes. But the mind movies made me realize that I had become what I always wanted to be: a writer, a creative: That’s now my identity. A complete transition.

Eventually, my mind found rest. The turning stopped, and I could finally enjoy the cherry blossoms. I'm not sure if my creative brain actually turned off or if I simply allowed it to rest once I accepted my new identity. Either way, I could finally embrace vacation mode.
